Hindu Indians are crazy about their gods and August and September are particularly important months in the Hindu-worship calendar. Some of the gods celebrated are: Ganesh, son of Shiva and Parvati. He’s the one with the elephant head…people like to tell him their secret desires before they submerge him into water. Then there is Krishna, one of the blue ones and the 8th incarnation of Vishnu. Krishna is famous for being a rambunctious child with a fondness for yogurt. His followers are the famous Hare Krishnas. They love to sing, and dance, and postulate, and adorn you with marigolds, and give you sweets, and welcome you into their temple. It must also be said, that wherever a painting or statue of a god is, no peeing is allowed. Seriously. People will paint the gods and goddesses onto their fences and walls so that people will not urinate on them. I think it’s brilliant. I wonder if it also works for rickshaws? I may suggest that next time I take a ride in a ripe rick.
